I was very grateful to learn and dance with JourneyDance™ creator, Toni Bergins while I was a residential volunteer at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in 2010. It was inspiring to see all the different people that would come to Toni's noon-time dance: women, men, old, young, yogi, non-yogi, staff, guest, etc. It was exciting to witness how Toni's mix of guidance, authentic enthusiasm, and musicality created such a unique and powerful space. It was during these experiences that I allowed my guard down and let myself MOVE - rolling on the floor, expanding through the space, jumping and voicing to the wild sounds of tribal drums. Eventually, I stopped putting so much pressure on myself about how my body looked or how I thought I was being perceived; I found empowerment as well as thrilling joy. It was this new freedom within my body and my emotions that allowed me to enjoy my own dancing as well as appreciate the unique movements of everyone else around me. This is why I wanted to learn how to share this experience with others; no matter where you are in your comfort level or experience, you can find joy, freedom, and insight into your own movement, your own rhythm, and your own story. It really becomes your Journey in relationship to your Self, others, and the community.
Steven Hosking is currently attending graduate school at Lesley University in Boston, MA for his Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. He also graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Theater and a minor in Creative Writing and is always looking for inspiration for his continued journey in the fields of expressive movement, yoga, ensemble theater, music, Nature, and the visual arts. Steven was raised in a small woodsy town in south-central Connecticut, which to this day still only has one traffic light...and tons of trees! He loves being outside, hiking, swimming, watercolor sketching, cooking, and laughing. He has studied voice, ballet & modern dance, yoga, Reiki, and is proud to have a lovable and completely opposite fraternal twin brother!
